Air Weapons – Rifle Shooting
Indoor Air Rifle shooting is usually carried out on standard 10 metre ranges using NRSA approved targets. Rifles used are of .177 calibre and are usually, but not necessarily, pre-charged pneumatic (PCP). It is possible to shoot .177 spring rifles but due to the higher accuracy of PCP rifles it is rare to see spring rifles used.
All the air rifles shot in competitions, must be under the 12 foot/pounds limit above which a firearms certificate is required. It is therefore possible to shoot and own air rifles at the Club without the need to obtain a forearms certificate.
Due to the less onerous legal restrictions the shooting of air weapons is the most popular means by which new shooters can be introduced to the sport and the club has a very good record welcoming new shooters, both young and old, through the air weapons section.
Although most shooters will purchase their own rifles the Club has a number of rifles available for new shooters to use which can allow you to try out the sport without having to immediately buy a rifle.
